We're back from Joe Nall! I counted only 6 people from SMRCF there, so those of you that didn't make it, do yourself a favor and schedule at least a day trip for next year! (Of course, day trippers miss the night flying and the Dawn Patrol, but one step at a time.)
Before you get bored reading this, let me make a few quick announcements:
1. June 17th is our own David Word event. (Soon to rival Joe Nall?) Details on Slack, but start thinking of which Fun Fly events you might want to compete in.
2. I'd like to get a short work party going on the morning of June 3rd. We need to trim the weeds on the runway (bring weed wackers!) and do some annual tree trimming along the road. We'll start around 9AM and should be done by Noon. We'll need weed wackers for the runway and a few tree trimming tools. Also, if someone brought a dump trailer, we could use a bit of our extra gravel to fill the one pothole I keep hitting.
3. EAA 690 Summer camp is fast approaching as well, and SMRCF typically provides volunteers the first Monday (June 12th) for the RC / Model day. Please contact me or Joel if you can help. (

4. Name tags are available! To collect yours, see anyone with a key to the storage container. (Instructor pilots and club officers) If you want a nickname, just let us know and we can reprint. We plan to use the nametags as proof of membership this year, so please at least remember to bring it with you. Or, better yet, go ahead and wear it so all the new people can learn your name. (I haven't met anyone in RC that was good at remembering names after all.)
Back on the subject of Joe Nall, we were discussing YouTuber's while there and found we all had different favorite channels. Here's a list of some of the folks I saw recording there:
He helped organize the Community Build Project there, and so you might see a few of us in his videos working on the project.
My favorite channel as he does some building and some giant scale reviews. I managed to strike up a conversation at one of the meal lines. He is also part of the RC Round Table.
Three guys including Fitz Walker from Hobbyview and Lee Ray from the AMA podcast.
I've only just discovered this channel, but he seems to have very good production quality and a nice sense of timing.
I found out about this one from Matt and don't know much about it.
So, what are your favorites? If you think of one, let us know on Slack!
See you at the field, as the upcoming 3 day weekend might just have some nice calm days.
