Club Newsletter - Jan Update

Happy New Year 2022 all.

It's been fairly crappy weather on the weekends, so I haven't seen anyone at the field recently. However, time marches on. Here's the local Radio Control news as I know it:

1. Stone Mountain park contacted me today with an update on the filming. They will be starting some construction tomorrow (Thursday, Jan 20th). Apparently, the construction area will now be behind the car track. However, we are still able to use the field until they set up their actual filming days, which have not been determined yet. They will be there through February 18th. Hopefully, the filming will be during the work week and will have minimal effect on us.

2. Upcoming local events:

 a. Hilltop Chili Flyin, details here: (https://www.facebook.com/groups/hilltopflyersloganville)

They have apparently moved the date back to January 29th.

  b. Perry Swap meet on March 4th and 5th, details here: (https://www.gamarc.com/event-details/2022-southeastern-model-show-2)

For our newest members, let me add that the Perry Swap meet is a big deal! Imagine three event buildings full of radio control airplanes looking for new homes. Check out the Slack channel #perry_swap_meet and ask questions.

3. The board met earlier this week to discuss plans for the year. The minutes are available here: (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NoqPNZDyJZ3oScF5jqxe5VZnIjIXQVrdI9KSThH6NbE/edit?usp=sharing)

4. It was decided the monthly Board Meetings will now be open to anyone who wishes to listen in. (We will reserve the first 30 minutes for anything confidential.) A Zoom link will be posted via email for anyone interested. We will mute participants initially, as the meetings are already too long, but we'll have some method for raising a hand if needed.

5. We have tentative dates for this year's events. June 18th for the David Word Spring Flyin, and October 22nd for the annual warbird event. I'll be checking these against local conflicts before finalizing them, so there is still time to let me know if you know of any conflicts yourself.

6. Runway fundraising progress - The original plan was to save for 2-3 years and that hasn't changed. Please donate to the runway fund if you can. We've decided additionally to sell 5 year and 10 year memberships at the slightly discounted rate of $450 for 5 years and $800 for 10 years. Initially, we are limiting these to 30 people, though I'm fairly sure the limit won't be an issue. If you've already paid your membership for this year, you can still upgrade.

7. RE: runway donations, we made some decisions on what happens in the unlikely event that SMMA (our landlord) kicks us off the field during the fund raising. See meeting minutes or send me an email for details.

8. Finally, please let me know if you hear about someone who didn't receive this. We want to be able to reach every member, but we need current contact info to do so.

9. EAA: If you know anyone who is a drone professional, in addition to our normal Summer Camp volunteers for radio control day, the EAA Summer Camp lost their professional drone operator volunteer and is looking for someone new. Please contact me if you're interested or know someone who might be.
