BY-LAWS OF THE STONE MOUNTAIN RADIO CONTROL FLYERS
As amended June 2010
ARTICLE 1: NAME
The name of this organization shall be the Stone Mountain Radio Control Flyers (SMRCF).
ARTICLE 2: PURPOSE
The purpose for which this organization was formed is to foster social relationships and fellowship among model aviation enthusiasts. To promote and improve the hobby of model aviation, particularly the radio control aspect of the hobby. To provide leadership and guidance for those who seek the education and recreational benefits of model aviation.
ARTICLE 3: MEMBERSHIP
Any person interested in the purpose of this organization is eligible for membership consideration.
A prospective member is required to present proof of current year AMA membership along with an application for membership in SMRCF. New member applications are subject to review and approval by the Board of Directors. Upon acceptance and payment of all fees and dues. The applicant shall be considered a member of SMRCF.
Any member who abuses or continues to violate any of the rules published in the SMRCF Flying and Safety Rules or the AMA Safety Rules will be dealt with in accordance with the SMRCF “Individual Safety Warnings and Actions Policy”. The severity of membership revocation, whether imposed as temporary or permanent, will be decided by the Board of Directors. Any degree of suspension or expulsion will result in forfeiture of all dues paid.
ARTICLE 4: DUES
The annual membership dues amount will be established by the club officers and Board of Directors. Every effort will be made to maintain the dues level at a very affordable level. In the event an increase is required, members will be notified in advance. The club officers will determine the dues rate.
Membership dues shall cover a period of twelve consecutive months from Mar. 1 to Mar. 1.
Renewal of dues shall be paid on an annual basis with the due date no later than Mar 1. Members whose renewal dues are paid after the due date, will be asses a $10 administrative fee.
Membership privileges apply to the member and to all family members of the member’s immediate family (spouse, son, daughter), providing the son or daughter is under the age of twenty-one and is a dependent of the member, or until the age of twenty-five if a full time student and still considered a dependent of the member.
ARTICLE 5: MEETINGS
Meeting schedule of the membership will be biannual with additional meetings as determined by the Board of Directors. An appropriate meeting announcement will be made to all members.
ARTICLE 6: BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The Board of directors shall provide leadership and run the general business of the organization. The board shall consist of the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, and up to four additional leader members appointed by the officers.
ARTICLE 7: OFFICERS
The officers of the club shall be President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. The term of office shall be two years. At the completion of their terms, new officers will be elected by majority vote of the membership.
ARTICLE 8: DUTIES OF OFFICERS
President: Shall preside at club meetings. Appoints committees as necessary to conduct the business of the club. Shall be authorized to sign club checks in the absence of the Treasurer.
Vice President: Shall assume the duties of the President in his absence and assume other duties as assigned by the President.
Secretary: Shall handle all club correspondence which shall include distribution of the club newsletter to all club members. Shall keep the minutes of all board of directors and club meetings.
Treasurer: Shall maintain the club’s checking account and shall be authorized to sign all club checks.
ARTICLE 9: VACANCY OF OFFICERS
A vacancy of the office of President shall be filled by the current Vice President.
A vacancy of the office of Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer shall be filled by the appointment by the President.
ARTICLE 10: EXPENDITURES
The club officers and Board of Directors shall control expenditures of the club. Expenditures over $1500 will be voted on by the club members.
ARTICLE 11: FLYING SITE RULES
Rules governing the flying site will be provided with the membership application and also posted at the flying site and on the SMRCF web site. All members are expected to read and be familiar with these rules.
ARTICLE 12: AMMENDMENTS
Member recommendations for amendments to the club’s by-laws must be submitted in written form for review by the board of directors. If the recommended amendment is considered as being in the best interest of the club and is within the scope of the agreement with the landlord, and within the scope of any zoning ordinance, the proposal will be adopted and the members so informed. The board of directors may, at its discretion, bring the matter up for additional member discussion and review. If the proposed amendment is rejected, the member proposing the amendment will be notified in writing of the board’s decision.
